First, these are fine/extra fine Roloc (White) Bristle Discs . So don't expect them to be aggressive. I used them to clean old gasket material from aluminum head and cylinder on a ATV. I did not want the aggressive (Yellow, Green) Roloc disks for fear of cutting into the machine surface. Plan on scrapping the bulk of the old gasket off.

Is it ok to use a yellow 3m Roloc bristle disc on the mating surface of a cylinder head? Also, side question. With the cylinder head off the car, put oil in the valves from the top and blow compressed air through. If oil comes through is that a way to determine if the valves are leaking?

Jul 30, 2015 I have a very smooth, clean head mating surface, straight from the machine shop. Engine block surface is pretty typical, needs some smoothing and cleaning. I am using a Fel Pro MLS gasket, and research says no sealant should be used on this gasket. I understand the 3M Roloc discs are recommended for surface prep also.

Oct 02, 2003 What you should use is a die grinder or drill(if you dont have a compressor) with 3M Roloc Bristle Disc, they are plastic and do not hurt the metal surface at all just cleans I have used them before and work great. Link below is what they look like, you may be abile to get some at a body shop or paint supply house maybe local parts store.
