Alodining is the chemical application of a protective chromate conversion coating on aluminum. Why would anyone want to alodine aluminum? It provides good corrosion protection. scratched. Alodined 2024 aluminum withstands salt spray 150-600 hours before forming white corrosion. Untreated 2024 corrodes in less than 24 hours.

Jul 20, 2021 I am the QC and lab technician at a small sheet metal manufacturing shop in N. Idaho. We have just switched to the Alodine 600 and are having some mind-boggling problems. The 600 coats 2024 BR and 7075 CL aluminum alloys good, but coats 2024 CL, 7075 BR, and 6061 aluminum alloys very poorly (the coating is streaky and light).
2024-T6 aluminum sheets were cut using eccentric scissors for each thickness (0.8128 mm, 1.27 mm and 3.556 mm). The cut size of the sheets was 279.4 x 228.6 mm2. All the sheets were cleaned, and an alodine coating was applied to the sheets. This coating protects against corrosion and ensures better ad-hesion of paint to the surface.
