Mar 08, 2014 Lifter bore clearance!: I chased my poor oiling problem (at the rockers) on a freshly-machined/built 331 for months. One day I finally stumbled on a post about too much lifter-bore/lifter clearance, and I found a stock replacement lifter from Comp Cams that advertized it was .001" larger.

Feb 02, 2007 That would be total clearance and .001 is a little to tight as we have seen lifters seize in the bores when the run that tight. we have a brand new GM block in the shop P/N 10105123 and the lifter bores measure .8443 and we have a new set of GM lifters P/N 5232720 that measure .8424 which gives you a clearance of .0019.
Dec 25, 2006 Press fit into block will be .001" - .0015" installed at room temp using a sleeve locking compound. Lifter body to sleeve clearance will be .0015" - .002". I haven't decided what size feed hole to use in the sleeve to meet the oil gallery. I may go with a .028" orifice to somewhat restrict oil feed to the upper end.
