A closer look at the 1975 351W head casting shows the “WCP” and “351” markings. When you are shopping for 351W cylinder heads, focus on 1969–1974 castings with the 60-cc chamber and 1.840/1.540-inch valves. By 1978, the 351W head was noth-ing more than a 302 casting with smaller 1.780/1.450-inch valves.

This is the 1970–1971 429 CJ/SCJ head with pushrod guide plates and screw-in rocker-arm studs. If you want to stick with a stock head casting, this is your best choice if you can find it. The aftermarket also offers a wealth of better aluminum heads for the 385-series Fords.
When initially removing main caps, the caps and block should be deburred before reinstalling. This will insure that correct main size is maintained. Use 351W 1/2" head bolt and stud kits Head stud holes are blind. They do not go into the water jacket. Locktite #620 is recommended when installing head and main studs into the block.
