Dec 30, 2015 They are manufactured from 356-T7 aluminum and feature siamesed cylinder bores, a 9.400 in. deck height, 4-bolt main journals with steel billet main caps, and 2.75 in. diameter main journals. At just 124 lbs., the Ford Racing 351 aluminum wet or dry sump engine blocks save a tremendous amount of weight over a standard cast iron block.

The 351's are identified as 351C's, 351W's, and 351M's in the MPC, but not so the 400. As an example of that, scroll down a bit and click on the Part Numbers tab and take a look at the extract from the MPC. Yep, it says "351M" and "400". In fact, no where in the 5047 pages of the 1980 - 89 MPC does Ford use the term "400M".

It's been a while, but he can often fully CNC precision-machine a block to blueprint specs including piston-fitting, and ship it to your door ready to assemble for less than you can have your block only cleaned, decked and bored locally. To that end, Ford Racing created the high-strength M-6010-Z351 aluminum block. At around $3,479.95 from Summit Racing, the Z351 block has a 351-sized 9.5-inch deck height with enough space to swallow strokes to 4.25 inches and bores up to 4.125 inches.

Sep 06, 2009 Can you expect about the same coolant temps as a Ford 351W block,horsepower being about the same. Just wondering if the Dart expanded water jackets make up for the siamesed cylinder walls. I see where Ford went to great lengths,to improve street cooling on its new Boss 351 blocks.
Aug 05, 2010 408 is a 30 bore away and the only other unique part on the lower end is some of Tim Meyers $300 pistons. Those pistons and the aussie heads will get you to 400 ft-lbs pretty easy. Being a huge 78/79 bronco nut, I had running 400's and BB C6's all over the place, so my decsion was easy.

Once that question is answered, there are both iron pumps (stock) and aluminum (aftermarket a couple of Ford performance models for both 351-C 351-W). Aluminum pumps are generally about 7- 8 lbs while iron pumps are maybe 14 lbs so the aluminum pumps are easier to work with. Both pump water nicely for street cars and should not leak.
