Weighing around 25 kg, the AM cylinder block has undergone and passed a number of tests at Volkswagen, offering significant advantages compared with conventional prototypes.

Jan 21, 2009 They actually have a bit higher displacement (closer to 2.9 i believe) than most mk3 (Jetta/Golf) VR6's. As far as the aluminum block. I'm fairly certain most VW/Audi's are iron and definitely not aluminum. So yes, they are very heavy although with the newer models aluminum blocks are more present depending on manufacturing plant.
Preparation of the block is very straight forward and follows standard rebuild procedures. The bulk of the work consists of cleaning the block and having the cylinders bored. The only procedure specific to a stroked 215/3.5 is the installation of an aluminum adapter to mate a custom rear main oil seal to the Buick 300 crankshaft.
