Sifalumin No 15 is a aluminium alloy with 5% silicon, offering excellent flow characteristics and penetration.(not for magnesium alloys) Sifalumin No 15 has a lower melting point and more fluidity than the 5 series filler alloys, and is preferred by most welders because it "wets and flows better" and it's less sensitive to weld cracking when used on the 6xxx series base alloys.

Aluminium TIG rods are for welding in AC TIG mode. The most popular grades used are 4043a and 5356, other more specialist grades are available. 4043a grade is a great all-round performing TIG rod and has excellent flow characteristics and penetration thanks to a 5% Silicon content, this can't be anodised.

Nov 22, 2010 look through the tig forum, the cast aluminum surface prep has been covered a few times recently. the 1" thick flange is going to require a lot of heat, and most likely multiple passes. you can try a helium or helium mix, but unless you have a 400A machine, you're going to have to bevel pretty deep and do a multi-pass weld.
