Aug 27, 2014 Aluminum 5005 Aluminum 5005 is a lean aluminum magnesium alloy with low density and excellent thermal conductivity. This medium strength non-heat-treatable alloy is known for its corrosion resistance in alkaline marine situations. Aluminum 5005 is readily machinable, and can be welded using TIG and MIG methods.

Apr 02, 2011 I'm looking to buy my first Rambler. There is a 1963 Classic for sale that has the original aluminum block engine. The engine runs and the car shifts OK into gear. Car sat in storage for a long time so it's not totally road worthy to take a long or fast test drive. I've read that the aluminum blocks were prone to warp if overheated.
