May 24, 2018 The Gen. 3 aluminum block LM4 engine came in Chevy, GMC, Buick and even Isuzu SUVs from 2003-05. It was known as the Vortec 5300 and made a little less power than its aluminum-block brother, the L33. This was due to the LM4's smaller intake valve Cathedral port heads, lower compression, and a slightly smaller cam.

Apr 17, 2011 The LM7 has an iron block with aluminum heads and it was used in the Tahoe, Suburban, Silverado, and Sierra. It was also used in the Avalanche and Escalade in 2002-2005. The L59 is a flexible fuel version of the LM7 and and the LM4 is an aluminum block version of the LM7. The L33 is also an aluminum block engine that was marketed as an HO engine.

Oct 11, 2009 The LM4 is a 2004-only aluminum block version of a run of the mill LM7 iron block 5.3. It was replaced by the L33 in 05. On paper, not much difference there. The L33 has a bit bigger cam, LS6 heads, and higher compression (9.9, compared to 9.5).
The 6.2L Gen 4 aluminum block LS3 got new rectangle port heads, 2.165 in. intake valves and 70cc combustion chambers. A stock LS3 churns out over 425 hp stock and is commonly stroked to 415 or 416 c.i.d. 7.0L+ LS Crate Engines. With a 4.000 in. stroke GM managed to get 427 c.i.d. out of the aluminum block LS7.

Feb 26, 2020 The LH6 engines used an aluminum block and were basically a replacement for the LM4 engine. I'm also pretty sure the LH6 was the first LS-based truck engine to offer active fuel management. In 2007 the LH6 became a full-fledged Gen 4 engine with the 58x reluctor wheel.
