The aluminum Slant Six block was series-produced in the RG (raised or “tall” block) 225 configuration using a die cast process. This block configuration can be used with 225 crank/rods and with 198 crank/rods. Of course, the 198 was still years away (1970-74) when the aluminum engines were produced. ...
(click here for more Aluminum Slant Six information) All cast iron SL6 blocks were made of an iron alloy containing elemental tin. The purpose of the tin was to add hardness to the iron resulting in reduced cylinder wear. The RGFC is the most common Slant 6 block and also the one most frequently used.
According to the 1962 Blue Book, the optional aluminum-block 225 for Valiants and Lancers carried option code 502 and cost $47.35 ($38.60 wholesale) over the base 170 cast-iron Slant Six. By comparison, the optional Music Master AM radio cost $58.50 ($45.45 wholesale).
Feb 04, 2006 I bought an Aluminum Block Engine. I went to "Crazy Ray's" salvage yard in Baltimore on the hunt for a 225 to replace my seized 170. I found 63 Dart 270 2 door in the yard with a 225 that looked pretty good. I picked that one because I know the early crank will fit my 63 automatic trans and the engine looked to be in pretty good shape.

Jan 27, 2010 For '63 (officially; practically late in '62 model year), the mods made to the head for use with the aluminum block were extended to all slant-6 cylinder heads, still with the casting number 2206035 which would remain in use through '66. Shortly into the '63 model year, the aluminum block was discontinued.

Dec 24, 2017 Slant Six tubing headers have become scarce lately. Slant Six guru Doug Dutra has a solution in his new cast iron Dutra Duals manifold set. They delivered 162.4 hp at 4,200 rpm and 215.1 lb-ft at 3,300 rpm, gains of 11.4 horsepower and 11.1 lb-ft. At 28.8 pounds, they're 8.2 pounds heftier than the stock iron log but should last forever.
A stood for high-volume small-block V8s; B for big-block V8s. The new six was coded G (RG for raised block and LG for low block, unlike RB and plain-B). Aluminum blocks were made in Kokomo for a few years; iron blocks were made at Trenton. The company's Windsor engine plant also made the slant six.
Origins. The Slant six was a Mopar first ever ohv six cylinder motor, which began production in 1960. While most other American six cylinder engines had the block orientated with the cylinders north and south at a 90 degree arrangement, the Slant Six (aka the "Leaning Tower of Power") leaned the cylinders over 30 degrees on a slant to allow for the lower hoods in the new

Feb 04, 2018 The aluminum Slant-6 is nifty and cool (in that "I have something not many other people have" kind of way), but it's not a hot ticket to awesome MPGs. You save 80 pounds, that's it. If you're trying to build a max-mileage maker, it'll be much more cost-effective to build a top-notch 170 engine and save the aluminum-block money for an EFI setup ...

We did ok winning one main event and placing well in the other races considering that we were new to it and the fords and chevys had quite an advantage in displacement.

Apr 04, 2019 On an experimental basis, Chrysler made some of their slant-six blocks out of aluminum in the early-mid '60s. Nobody seems to have noticed any difference in durability between the conventional slant-sixes and the aluminum ones, and most of the people who had these engines under the hood of their Plymouth or Dodge probably never even knew that they
Dec 12, 2019 That was kinda late for an aluminum block slant. Officially, it was a '61 production block, but some of them got used up for early '62 cars. Mopar discovered soon on that there wasn't enough head gasket sealing surface in the open-deck design, and once the head bolts lost some torque, a blown head gasket was the result, along with a cooked ...

Dec 26, 2021 Dodge first cast slant-six blocks out of aluminum. By the engine's second year of production, the company switched to cast iron. The result is a thick, strong cylinder block which is partially responsible for the engine's steadfast reputation.
Jun 01, 2016 Between 1961 and 1963, Chrysler produced more than 50,000 Slant 6 engines using an advanced die-cast aluminum block. Manufactured only in the raised-deck 225 CID version, this piece proved to be somewhat more trouble-prone than the standard iron block, with cast-in-place ferrous cylinder liners that tended to separate from the aluminium block casting.

Jun 06, 2018 The aluminum RG version was dropped in 1963, and executives rejected an even larger (246 cid) block with side-fed hydraulic lifters, and a high-swirl, fast-burn aluminum head (developed in 1978) that could have pushed the slant six on past 1989 by increasing power and cutting emissions.

Oct 21, 2018 The offset design of the slant allows really long stroke, long rods, long intake runners and a lot of room on the lefthand side of the engine for steering linkages, custom intakes, turbos, dry sump tanks, whatever. A slant six offers more in near-stock configuration than the Ford 144-250 or the Chevy 194-250 in my opinion. Zerk, Jan 16, 2008.
