For sake of comparison, we'll be talking about forgings and extrusions, since both have relatively equal grain structures and material characteristics. There are plusses and minuses to each process.

Jul 14, 2017 Franklin Club's factory drawing files show aluminum rods used in the Series 10 in early 1920's. They continued to use aluminum rods at least until 1932. Earlier connecting rod drawing numbers don't show up in the file, so I'm not sure if aluminum rods were used with earlier production. Yes, the rods and caps were supplied in Lynite.

But keep in mind, just because a crank is made from an exotic alloy, does not mean it is strong. Dec 03, 2021 As for rods you can use any LA 318, 340 or 360. The early 273 and 318 rods will be lighter so I'd shy away from them although you can use them but balancing will cost a bit more. The 340 rods will be bushed on the small end but they other will work just fine if you like. You'll need to have the rotating balanced.
