The aluminum alloy grade of 2017 contains the presence of magnesium and copper element. This alloy offers high strength, better resistance to atmospheric attack, good machinability etc. These alloy bars are usually used in various industrial applications and has the ability to work in the sub-zero temperature range.

预计阅读时间:1 分钟Unlike an aluminum anode rod, dissolved magnesium has health benefits. It's pretty clear which side wins in our water heater anode rod aluminum vs magnesium comparison. Lastly, if you compare zinc anode rods with either of today's contenders, you'll see that a zinc anode rod and a magnesium rod are indeed better than just aluminum rods.
Sep 11, 2019 Magnesium anode rods are known to increase the level of hydrogen sulfides to extreme levels. This creates a rotten-egg smell in the water that can be rather unpleasant. Strong Sides Aluminum rods normally include an alloy of zinc and aluminum metals. This increases durability. They are less expensive.
预计阅读时间:6 分钟Mar 15, 2020 But first, let's compare the two most common types of anode rods you'll find in water heaters today: aluminum and magnesium rods. Water Heater Anode Rods: Aluminum Vs Magnesium – Our Review So, you suspect your water heater's current anode rod needs replacing, so you're figuring out which type you ought to purchase as a replacement.
Zirconium is added to certain aluminum-magnesium-zinc alloys such as 7050 which reduces stress corrosion susceptibility. Zirconium additions in the range 0.1 to 0.3% are used to form a fine precipitate of intermetallic particles that inhibit recovery and recrystallization.
The return period for the rods has expired. My guess is the vendor of the rods I purchased sent to the less expensive magnesium anode rods and not the zinc aluminum rods I ordered. Sadly the two rods I purchased was a waste of money as I still have Rotten Egg Smelly Water.

Make sure the aluminum anode is not in contact with the inner parts of the heater. Aluminum anodes are ideal where the water contains sulfates. They are better at changing sulfates into hydrogen sulfides. Aluminum anode rods are preferable in this case as magnesium anodes will only increase the hydrogen sulfide compound.
The base metals were A2017-T3 (Al-Cu) and A6061-T6 (Al-Mg-Si) alloys, and the sheets were 0.8 mm thick. For friction stir welding, tended to produce stronger triple-lap joints than butt joints and double-lap joints. Furthermore, the welds between A2017 and A2017 had better tensile and impact characteristics than those between A6061 and A6061.

Later a design using fuel rods was developed. Fuel rods were loaded horizontally into the core at first, but vertical fuel rods were introduced for later designs. The fuel rod cladding was made from a zirconium–magnesium alloy which had the same flaw as the UK magnesium–aluminum alloy, the material reacted with water.

Dec 22, 2021 When it's time to choose a water heater anode rod, you need to focus on the rod's all information. Even a small difference in the alloy composition can lead to a huge difference in the resulting corrosion rate. The following are some of the main differences between aluminum anode rods and magnesium anode rods:

Dec 05, 2021 Aluminum rods are not as effective at preventing corrosion as magnesium. Aluminum rods produce byproducts which end up causing the buildup of sediment in the water tank. Due to the sediment build-up caused by aluminum anode rods, there is a higher risk of clogs in the water filters and tap aerators. Aluminum rods tend to get larger as they corrode.
May 30, 2020 2017-T351 Aluminum. 2017-T351 aluminum is 2017 aluminum in the T351 temper. To achieve this temper, the metal is solution heat-treated, stress relieved, then naturally aged. The stress relief is accomplished by stretching the metal by an amount that depends on the type of standard wrought product being made (sheet, plate, bar, or forging).
