Used these to check block flatness on an old cummins, found a couple low spots so got the block decked to be on the safe side and machine shop scanned and fluxed the block and found that these straight edges and my $7 feeler gauges had measured the low spots PERFECTLY so I'd say these were pretty dang straight!

Dec 03, 2021 There are a lot of parts that can't easily be made even with the shop. Think of all the stampings that require dedicated and specialized tooling. It's not like I could just find some machine down time and throw in a block of steel and out pops a FAMAS. I could probably get a lot of the individual parts done that way at work if I really wanted to.
May 21, 2018 Some good news. The sleeves I ordered from Darton for the 2 aluminum blocks I have in the shop are on the way!! Can't wait to get these 2 blocks finished for waiting customers. The first one got the head done but finally gave up on machining the block, the second one got nowhere and the place I have it at now is finally making progress, but the machinist is balking at the piston clearance of 0.043-0.063 mm.
