We'd be lying if we made the same claim. An aluminum connecting rod is a spring and there is only an X number of times a spring will compress and return to it's rest state without deformation. Sep 11, 2012 Not the street. But the tech man from Howards told me to change mine on a circle track engine between 500 to 600 laps. I quit using them and went to a lighter flywheel/clutch and a lighter crank shaft. I then gave the aluminum con rods to my street rod [not hot rod] friends for muffler hangers. If you don't turn a lot of RPM the might last forever.

Only show this user. the only problem with that is KB doesn't make 10:1 pistons for a 500 with 76cc heads. then I'm back to 12.5:1 compression and I have to worry about racing gas and possible connecting rod breakage. Jan 21, 2002 Another reason to use aluminum rods in race only applications is reduce rotating mass. High reving engines need to rev higher faster than a street machine. Aluminum rods were never intended for daily use. Use a high quality H-beam that has been shot peened, and magnafluxed. You can't go wrong with them. Venom_S

Nothing wrong with a Howards as yrs ago they were the Top fuel rod of choice based on they were forged. Looks like they don't do the Aluminum anymore.
Apr 12, 2018 Due to the fact most aluminum alloys used in connecting rods have roughly ½ the tensile strength of a good steel connecting rod, an aluminum rod has to be made larger. That bulk can get in the way inside the crankcase, especially with long stroke crankshafts. With an aluminum rod engine, you also have to be careful on every warm up cycle.
