Jan 13, 2009 18,113 Posts. #3 May 7, 2008 (Edited) For the block, weight savings is about 80#. Additional cost is about $2,500. For the diff, weight savings is about 10#. Additonal cost is about $150. IMO, not worth it unless you're building an all out race car where every ounce counts. Or you're Bill Gates and a few extra pennies won't matter.
Nov 02, 2012 I agree. I also would have thought an all aluminum engine (LS-3) would amount to greater weight savings relative to an iron block engine (ZZ383). I intend to replace my existing 350 with an LS 3, and a significant consideration in selecting LS3 over (e.g.) ZZ383 was for reduced weight.

May 27, 2016 Alum sbc heads weigh in at around half of iron heads. Stock iron sbc heads are in the 45-49 lbs range each. Alum sbc heads 21-25 lbs range each. Iron sbc intake weighs in at 40-44 lbs. Alum. sbc intake in the 13-17 lbs range. Long tube headers, I would guess to be 3-5 lbs lighter for the set than exhaust manifolds.

May 08, 2004 Based on the post below about the size of the 4.6L engine, does anyone have the true weight of the engine with an iron block? I understand that the new Lincoln Aviators have and all aluminum 4.6L that makes around 300hp, so I assume it is a 32V engine, any idea what the weight of the all aluminum engine is?
