Wet it thoroughly, let sit a few minutes, hit it with a stiff brush and a rag, then rinse well and dry, then apply paint immediately. An epoxy enamel will stick to clean aluminum, and be durable to boot. Or, have it powder coated.

Jul 18, 2010 I dunno if your doing steel or alluminum but i would also consider sandblasting so you know everywhere is touched for adhesion then throw down some epoxy then paint. If you do it by hand i would use some 220-320 and a red scotch brite then use a etching primer then seal and paint or use a adhesion promoter then epoxy then paint. good luck man.

Apr 14, 2017 You can use a torch to burn it off, no problem. The diamond plate has to be 1/4" minimum perhaps thicker. You are not heating the plate red hot only burning the paint or actually softening it. Use a scraper and a wire brush. Make sure you have gloves and a face shield. This would work best with two people, one burning and the other scraping.
