Jun 25, 2005 Our current buggy with 4-wheel steer, iron block 302 w/ aluminum heads, C-6, and an Atlas transfercase crosses the scale at 3600 lbs. I want something lighter. Building one without rear steer and an aluminum block can get me close to being under the 3000 lbs mark alone. Other items will make it possible.
Nov 25, 2016 @dear jeff small block ford: you forgot that the clevland based 302 found in the 69 mustang is different to the 302 windsor found in the 79-92 mustangs and are two different engines. so tuning them is completely different like chalk and cheese. espsially as you can a 302C into a 351C by changng the internals.

OEM replacement blocks are offered, as are aftermarket performance blocks in cast iron, aluminum and A356 aluminum. Cast-iron blocks can be purchased from Ford Racing for Boss 302, Boss 351 and 460 big-block applications. The cast Boss 302 block uses a stock 8.20-inch deck height, 302 main bearings and one-piece rear main seal.
The Boss 302 valvecover is nothing more than a 351C valvecover, be it steel or cast aluminum. All small-block Fords were topped with “slope-side” stamped-steel valvecovers from 1962 to 1966. The earliest 221 and 260 engines didn't have an oil filler neck in the valvecover, but instead a filler tube in the timing chain cover.
May 14, 2009 516 Posts. #6 Jan 1, 2007. you need to plug one of the water passage holes on the Cleveland heads and drill a new one in a similar location that will match up with the Windsor block. It will work, its nothing new. Thats how the Boss 302 was made, like the others said.

These reducer adapter bushings allow heads drilled for 1/2" head bolts to be used on 289-302 blocks. Their stepped design keeps 7/16" head bolts from sitting loose inside larger head bolt holes. Since most SBF aftermarket heads are drilled for 1/2" head bolts, adapter bushings are needed to take up the extra space in the larger head bolt holes.
