Oct 14, 2021 I have a Premier chrome over aluminum snare drum, and the (different) vintage throw off and butt end were pretty awful and I ended up replacing them both to make the drum usable. If you are looking for a great steel shell snare my first choice would be a Ludwig Supralite. A Yamaha Stage Custom is another good drum at an extremely reasonable price.
May 17, 2020 I don't change snare side heads all that often, but I do tweak the tuning on it fairly frequently. That detachable butt plate with the rim cutouts allows you to quickly and easily move the snares completely out of the way for tuning. FWIW, I have the Starphonic Bubinga. Absolutely LOVE that snare! I would imagine the aluminum model is killer too.

Brass or aluminum would be cool as well, same set up otherwise, but I'm fine with steel. My favorite I ever actually owned was similar but a birch shell and 1.6mm hoops.
