Feb 09, 2011 That's using a stock, or cheap aftermarket cast iron block. Wanna have a 900HP all aluminum sprint car motor? That'll be 50k, and that's using a cast aluminum block. There are some guys I know of who are building road race engines with fully machined blocks, extremely exotic heads and intakes and are paying north of 80-90k for those.

Dec 21, 2007 If you want a peppy street engine and plan on using aluminum heads, why not go a little higher to benefit from the aluminum; say in the 9.5:1. At the very least consider 9.25:1 SCR. As far as which heads to purchase, any of the top brands that jt1 listed should work fine. They are the brands that flow the best.

Ls has some improvements, no doubt, but a modified gen1 is no slouch. Any way. here's my 383 turbocharged gen1 h/c/I it's now running twin born s475.

Dec 03, 2020 I had an early aluminum breech block with steel breech face fitted into my Gen 1 44x-carry slide after having issues with Gen 1. I think of this modified Gen 1 as a Gen 1.5 just to keep them straight. That unit had the same problem you describe, maybe a little worse.
The big block aluminum block is truly a masterpiece; the fit and finish is equaled by none! A-356 virgin aluminum is used to assure maximum potential for strength and repairability. 1/4″ registers position the cast iron sleeves. The sleeves may be bored to 4.600. OK this is at detail complicated, the simple answer is the Gen II engines consist only of the LT1 and LT4, 350 cast iron block with aluminum heads and the all cast iron L99, 265 made from 1992 through 1996, some sources suggest 1997 was the last year.
Jul 24, 2015 When fitting aluminum cam bearings, it's important to allow sufficient bearing-to-camshaft clearance, since the harder aluminum alloy bearings won't wear in as rapidly as babbitt bearings to make their own clearance. Jan 04, 2009 The physical bolt patter of the heads are the sameas earlier small blocks, its just the coolant passages are different(no coolant going through the intake on an LT1). The LT5 was a totally different motor from the bottom to the top, it was a joint effort between GM and Lotus(iirc) and used DOHC heads and an aluminum block.
