If strength is more of a concern, grade 5083 is a good alternative. 6061-T6 is an all-around popular grade of aluminum that is also commonly used in marine applications.

Oct 10, 2010 Re: floor Materials for Aluminum boat. I just ordered my wood yesterday. I checked all over and Menards was the cheapest. Theirs was marine AB, where Lowes was BC. I have 2 sheets of 3/4" ($69.99 ea.) and 5 sheets of 1/2" ($49.99 ea.) coming next week. I plan to keep this boat forever so I went with the good stuff.

Dec 20, 2008 Usually boat decks are made from 5/8" ply. 3/4 will be adding more weight than needed to make a good floor. Marine would be ideal, but pressure treated will work just fine, especially if you let it dry and glass over it. Plywood comes in all different grades. Check around for lumber yards that store ply indoors.
