The difference between 2024-T3 v's 2024-T42, and 7075-T6 v's 7075-T62 is that in the case of both 2024-T3 and 7075-T6 whether it is bare or alclad material, the temper is referred to as a "mill temper" which means that the manufacturer (mill ...
Minimum Bend Radii: The minimum bend radius data shown in these charts is measured to the inside of the bend. The bend radii listed are standard minimum if manufacturing for aircraft and aerospace applications. Since commercial sheet metal bending can be done with less concern for stresses caused during forming operation, the radius can be near zero for thin sheet metal.

Bend Radii Minimum Bend Sizes. It is most economical to use a single bend radius throughout the design, but if necessary, you can utilize multiple radii. Use this document to choose values that are both manufacturable and meet your needs. If you need help choosing a value, contact us at info@protocase or 1-866-849-3911 and we can help.
Bend allowance is the amount of metal to be added to the total layout. The most important considerations when bending metal is the min. bend radius. When bends are made smaller than the required min. radius, metal will crack at the outside heel of the bend. The min. radius of a bend is determined by the hardness and thickness of the metal.
Apr 01, 2015 The minimum inside bend radius is even larger when bending with the grain. In steel between 0.5 and 0.8 in. thick, grade 350 and 400 may have a minimum bend radius of 2.5 times the material thickness when transverse bending, while longitudinal bending may require a minimum bend radius that's 3.75 times the material thickness (see Figure 1 ).
Aug 22, 2016 Grain direction- bend line should go across the grain for the best bend Having said that a typical sharp 90* bend on a piece of 1/8" aluminum sheet should be a minimum 1/8" inside radius, use either 3003 or 5052 ideally the bend line should go across the grain. This will give you a nice bend.
Bending Springback Calculator. After a bending operation, residual stresses will cause the sheet metal to spring back slightly. Due to this elastic recovery, it is necessary to over-bend the sheet a precise amount to acheive the desired bend radius and bend angle. The final bend radius and bend angle can be approximated from the sheet thickness ...

For applications outside of this range, please consult your local CINCINNATI Sales Engineer.
Aluminum tubing from Ryerson is available in both 6061 and 6063 alloys. Our rectangular tubing has sharp corners inside and out. The 6061 rectangular tube is weldable and strong. The 6063 architectural aluminum tube is often used for outdoor features such as railings and trims.
Apr 13, 2016 Note that “20 percent” is only a title; the percentages actually change with the tensile strength of the material. 5052 H32 soft aluminum, the inside radius is between 11 and 13 percent of the die opening. Hot-rolled pickled and oiled, 14 to 16 percent. 6061 in “O” condition, 18 to 20 percent. 304 stainless steel, 20 to 22 percent.
Jan 10, 2018 Make your bends over a suitable round bar to obtain a good bend radius for the material. For 1/8 you'll want to bend it around a 3/4" diameter bar. That'll give you a 3/8 ID radius and retain more of the original strength. I would not recommend going any less than this if you want to retain all the original strength.

The Minimum Bend Radius for Aluminum. When working with aluminum over sheet metal, several variables need to be considered. Aluminum is typically thicker and stronger, and requires more force to bend as well as consideration of edge conditions and punch nose radii. Aug 17, 2018 Still, if you want to avoid cracking, abide by the minimum bend radius in 0.25-in.-thick 6061-T6, which is quite large (see Figure 3), and avoid bending acute angles. Say you get a print that says you need to bend a part to an external angle of 100 degrees—that's an internal angle of just 80 degrees.

May 10, 2015 3. 6061. This is one of the most versatile of the heat treatable family of alloys. In the annealed condition, it can be used for bending since the difference between yield and tensile strength is 10 Ksi and elongation is up to 18%. When moving up to T4 and T6 tempers, however, bending ability tends to decrease.
