Mar 01, 2010 Most old Kawa's get pretty grimy from road crap around the engine. If it were a car engine, I'd just coat it up with Gunk degreaser, scrub it a bit and hose it off. But Gunk and similar degreasers warn not to use on aluminum (as well as oven cleaner). I've tried aluminum wheel cleaners with no success, and I can't afford any kind of blasting.

It gives a nice even fresh-blasted aluminum finish that is heat resistant and cleans up easily. Have put a lot of miles on it since and it still looks like new with just a quick wipedown. Terry

I will now have to try some experiment with the simple green on what happens if aluminum is left soaking vs just sprayed on and left on the surface just see what happens.

Measure bores, valve guide wear etc. If they are good, drill and die grinder with several different wire brushes, then another bath in soap and water, blow dry with air, and oil it down.
