Aug 23, 2016 Looks like scale, mineral deposits from hard water. Scale makes an excellent insulator, just a very thin layer of scale will greatly reduce the heat transfer from metal to coolant. You've got a mess there, I don't know how you're gonna get it all cleaned out. Running straight tap water was a big mistake.
