By November 26, 1958, the world's first Slant Six was assembled and running in a Chrysler test cell. It was an iron 170-cu. version. Within two weeks an aluminum 170 was running and, by February and March 1959, prototype iron and aluminum 225-cu. engines were also running.

Feb 04, 2006 I bought an Aluminum Block Engine. I went to "Crazy Ray's" salvage yard in Baltimore on the hunt for a 225 to replace my seized 170. I found 63 Dart 270 2 door in the yard with a 225 that looked pretty good. I picked that one because I know the early crank will fit my 63 automatic trans and the engine looked to be in pretty good shape.

Jun 19, 2013 High compression is not good for an aluminum slant block at all. Since they lack support at the top of the cylinders, the cylinders can actually distort and cause the head gasket to blow. 8.5:1 is probably all they can stand. Dont whant to bash the slant but if you tear a 3.7 liter 6 cylinder diesel down you realize how much more beef it has in its block than a slant. - sadly i belive that they would just have made their own"olds diesel" disaster. The aluminum block needs a special head gasket, that's only available NOS. but I have no thickness specs yet. Should have the head back this week so I can get started.

I am definitely buying the 280z, and now I am in a quandary as to which engine to choose. as far as I've seen, an l28 in really good shape is the same cost as an rb25, an rb20 or a black top t28 equipped sr20 are a bit cheaper. the rb25 seems like the obvious choice right now, with the sr as a back up, but I'm not sure.
