Sep 26, 2018 Main bearing clearance in an aluminum block is not critical, use the same clearances that you would use with a cast iron block. What is important though is the housing bore dimension. Aim for the minimum bore diameter, or very close to it. Bill. Perfect Circle Doctor of Motors certification.

The general idea on those threads is that they
Divide by 10, and round off (331” becomes 33, 354” becomes 35, etc.). 2. Add 180. The result is the cam's “duration @ .050” lift” (look for it in the cam manufacturer's specs). For a 331” motor in this case: 212° (331 ÷ 10 = 33; 33 + 180 = 213). More power? Like that “racy” idle? Afford to lose a bit of low speed power?
as both rod and main bearing housing bores. If the engine uses bimetal bearings, the wall tolerance is .0003” per shell or .0006” in total. Adding these up, we get .0010” for the housing + .0010” for the shaft + .0006” for the bearings = .0026” total clearance variation possible due to mating part manufacturing tolerances. If our ...

That's one of the reasons why engines in IndyCar, WEC, Formula 1 and other high-end ...
Mar 26, 2013 The clearance is measured 90 degrees to the bearing parting line, which is the thickest part of the bearing (bearing thickness tapers slightly toward the parting line). Reducing the oil clearance between the rod and main bearings and
Jan 10, 2017 Jurincie started with the line hone and also decked the block. He also found that the size of the bore was off for the pistons the customer had. The piston wall clearance ended up being between .007” and .009” off, which is way out of spec. Boring and honing was in order.
Nov 25, 2021 The thermal growth was too much with an aluminum block and the bearing would move or spin. Begle's team attempted to get more oil clearance in an aluminum block by making the housing bore larger, but that reduced the clamping force, making the problem even bigger. They got oil clearance, but they lost force to keep the bearing in the block.
All were “two bolt main cap” types, meaning the crankshaft main bearing caps securing the main bearings to the bottom of the block used two bolts for each cap. Please note that some 1955-58 low deck blocks (potentially) intended for Saratoga or Windsor 301, 331 or 354 poly use will have the pushrod clearance holes enlarged into a "figure 8 ...

Once the block has been properly prepared its time for assembly. There are a couple things you need to know that are particular to early hemis and they will be covered below. Surfice to say that generally speaking assembly is pretty much the same as any other V8 including checking main bearing clearances, crankshaft end play, and rod bearing ...
Even a small fragment between the main cap and the block causes irregular main bearing cap seating and, as a result, irregular machining. And that leads to main bearing and journal damage and engine failure. The goal is for the crankshaft to ride squarely on the main bearings to achieve uniform wear and consistent oil pressure.

They eject oil via another passage drilled diagonally into the main bearing bulkhead.
Rod Bearing Clearances. Another critical area of the engine is the rod bearings and setting rod bearing clearance.
