Mar 13, 2013 Tweet. #2. 03-14-2013, 07:40 PM. Tig welding 5052 Aluminum. which filler ? Either filler is good unless you are anodising it then go for 5356. 4043 will be more ductile and less likely to crack but on the other hand 5356 is a stronger material but tends to crack if you don't cap the weld properly. Comment. Post.
5052 and 6061 compatibilityAluminum Filler 4043 Or 5356查看更多结果Nov 17, 2014 The correct filler metal for the 5XXX alloys is one of the 5XXX fillers, such as 5356, 5554, 5183, or 5556. However, 5052 is the only 5XXX alloy that cannot be welded autogenously. If you try it the weld oftentimes will crack. Why? The nominal chemistry of 5052 is only 2.5 percent magnesium.

I want to make sure we have a good seal. The framework is all 6061 and we have been using 5356 to weld. We were debating on using 4043 or 5356 to weld the plate butt welds on the bottom ...

Cu: 0,02% maxJun 04, 2004 From one of my TIG books, but probably relevant anyway: For 5052 aluminum: Max strength: ER 5556. Max ductility: ER 5654. For best color match after anodizing ER 5356. Max salt water corosion resistance: ER 5554. Least cracking tendancy ER 5356. I use 5356 for most 5052 work, but I don't remember ever having to grind one smooth and polish it up ...

The more magnesium an aluminum magnesium alloy contains, the less likely it is to crack; thus, the high magnesium content fillers 5356, 5183, and 5556 are commonly used ...

The 5356 filler alloy is often used on the slightly lower strength 5086 base alloy and will typically obtain its required minimum transverse tensile strength for grove welds (35ksi – 240MPa). The 5183 and the 5556 filler alloys will both typically meet the code tensile strength requirements for groove welds in 5083 base alloy.
