Dec 14, 2010 If your looking to drop some real weight off your car, removing cast iron drums and installing aluminum drum is the answer. on an avg. 8lbs. difference per wheel of un-sprung weight is equal to 10 lbs. of body weight which would equal 160 lbs. remove from your ride ASAP. Not counting on quick the drums cool down for better stoping.

Single drum pullers are available from 3,000 lbs. to 60,000 lbs. Rope length is determined by the size of the pulling drum and diameter of the rope and rating for the pulling force of the machine. 4:1 safety factor of the pulling rope is standard. 4,000 lb.
The larger cylinder has an inside radius of 12” and the smaller has an inside radius of 6”. Both parts were also welded completely at the seam to form a complete cylinder in our custom fabrication department. We specialize is both rolling bending of sheet metal and steel plate. We do press brake bending using our 500 ton 18 foot press brake.

Oct 06, 2004 My 1979 Mustang Cobra was equipped with aluminum drums. They have steel liners in them. I still have them, but they're attached to the original rear end and are in excellent condition (31,000 original miles.) We've since installed a built 8.8 with regular drums in it's place.

To my knowledge, no other company has had these aluminum drums reproduced. The benefits of aluminum drums needs no real explanation. They are lighter, dissipate heater better, and of course not subject to rust. They came on a variety of A-body, G-body, and F-body cars in the 1970s and 1980s. GM has not had them available for over 15-20 years.
