Since they lack support at the top of the cylinders, the cylinders can actually distort and cause the head gasket to blow. 8.5:1 is probably all they can stand. Jan 27, 2010 For '63 (officially; practically late in '62 model year), the mods made to the head for use with the aluminum block were extended to all slant-6 cylinder heads, still with the casting number 2206035 which would remain in use through '66. Shortly into the '63 model year, the aluminum block was discontinued.

I would be interested even if it meant inclusion of a special intake manifold (needed due to larger valve placement) and even further interested if it meant the necessary use of non factory exhaust.
