A 331 stroker engine is a Ford 302 that has been “stroked” with a larger crankshaft. This gives the engine more torque in lower RPM's. The 331 is known to spin-up faster than the 347 due to a lighter crankshaft. Horsepower: 467 HP. Torque: 435 lbs. Gas: 91 Octane (Premium) Max RPM: Idle to 6000 RPM. Stall Recommended: 2500.

Aug 12, 2010 Theres a guy on another forum who runs box stock 170cc TW heads on a 408 with a custom cam and runs 10 sec 1/4 mile. You will get more power putting heads on your 289 than you would with stock heads on a 331-347. Like I said get a roller block or low budget a roller engine out of an exploder with gt-40p heads the only problem is headers to fit.

In my trek to build the 408, through reading numerous and various forums threads over the past month regarding aluminum cylinder heads, it seems the prices have jacked up over the past couple years. The current pricing for AFR 205 is over $2,200 which seems ridiculous to me. I live in Central PA and Spring Carlisle is coming up very soon.
