Paying $5000-6000-7000 for a block that may not be usable on arrival, requires more prep to be usable, and will be down on hp just doesn't seem too smart to me.

There are some guys I know of who are building road race engines with fully machined blocks, extremely exotic heads and intakes and are paying north of 80-90k for those.
