Aluminum engine blocks. Most new vehicles use aluminum engine blocks, as they are a viable alternative to cast iron. Pros. Lighter: Aluminum engine blocks are lighter than iron blocks, and this not only helps with gas mileage, but reduces excessive wear on the tires as well. It's also less stressful on the vehicle's brakes because there's ...
Dec 01, 2012 The obvious advantage of the aluminum block is weight. Then you get added benefit -although rather insignificant- of it not rusting. As with most aftermarket blocks it also seems they are better than older OE blocks from an architecture standpoint, e.g. oiling. Cost is a huge con obviously since most are ~5k.
User Interaction Count: 43Dec 06, 2012 So say a 700 hp engine in a 600 lb (aluminum head/intake/WP) BBC. Thats 1.167 hp/lb) Take the same engine with an aluminum block, that would be maybe 660 hp with a 500 lb engine giving a much improved 1.32 hp/lb. While making less horsepower, the car should hook better, handle better, and should ET and trap better.

Aluminum oxidizes quickly, and the resulting surface coat of aluminum oxide resists further corrosion, by air, water, and chemicals. This protective coating is clear, colorless, and non-staining.
Sep 21, 2008 Pros: weight savings, coolness factor. Cons: cost, slightly more attention to maintenance and fastener torquing/sequencing is required. I was nervous about the aluminum block as well... but love mine. As I looked into it, I found that the Dart aluminum block is quite stout... capable of going well beyond 427 cubes.
United Aluminum can supply these alloys, sometimes referred to in the group of “Aerospace Alloys” for their practical applications in the aviation industry. Aluminum has many benefits over other materials, including a high strength to weight ratio, corrosion resistance, formability, and price. Alloy 6061, 7075, and 2024 are engineered to be ...
Sep 27, 2016 Car engine blocks are nearly exclusively aluminum these days; I can't think of a single example of an iron block, but there probably is. Pros for aluminum: Steel is 2.8X denser, so it's heavier than aluminum if the same volume of material is used. (See cons below) Thermal expansion matches the aluminum heads typically used, so less problematic ...
Aluminum Vs. Cast Iron Engine Blocks It Still Runs. Aluminum Vs. Cast Iron Engine Blocks. by Richard Rowe. Nicolas Agustin Cabrera/Demand Media. While iron engine blocks are time-tested and race-proven, aluminum is the preferred metal for many racers. It does have many advantages, but you need to be aware of its limitations.
Mar 29, 2021 The Indy block lists for $6500 alone. Feb 15, 2015 I don't care if you 2 use aluminum gas blocks and enjoy the malfunctions. Or are you claiming having a certain type of work shop plus smearing Loctite on the set screws will mystically cause the aluminum gas block to be reliable? Either way, it is rather interesting that your love of thread locker would cause you to wish a horrible death on anyone.

Density of Aluminium Alloy vs Magnesium Alloy. Density of typical aluminium alloy is 2.7 g/cm 3 (6061 alloy). Density of typical magnesium alloy is 1.8 g/cm 3 (Elektron 21). Density is defined as the mass per unit volume. It is an intensive property, which is mathematically defined as mass divided by volume:
Nov 06, 2017 Vinyl and aluminum windows are both very popular, and each has distinct pros and cons, especially in hot climates. This is what you should know: Pros of Aluminum Windows. Jun 01, 2009 Billet blocks have a number of advantages over cast aluminum blocks, such as strength. Billet blocks are much stronger than cast blocks, with the tensile strength of a billet block being about a third higher than that of a 356 aluminum block. This improves rigidity, reduces block distortion and improves cylinder sealing under load.
Aluminum radiators are the common choice for most street and track performance applications. Performance-minded customers opt for a radiator replacement for one or more of the following reasons: they want lighter weight, they're upgrading the cooling system for improved efficiency or they want to enhance the underhood appearance. Oct 12, 2004 The 96 style aluminum blocks are stronger than the 2002 Explorer blocks. The problem (splitting the block) only comes to light at excessive HP levels. The block splits through the water jacket on the passenger side from fron to rear. It literally rips the block from from front to rear because of the stress.
Cons. -One of the disadvantages of steel rims is the fewer number of spokes. With the amount of snow and slush the roads have throughout West Michigan, used steel wheels can build up with ice and snow. Aluminum rims typically have much larger opening in the spokes allowing for easier clearing of this ice and snow.
