4.2/5Dec 28, 2010 Yep, a good aluminum brazing rod is *much* easier to use than trying to TIG thin material such as that used for mufflers. I've always found it a pain trying to TIG the inside of right-angle joins with thin aluminum tubes/sheet because the arc will inevitably pull to the sides rather than the join-line -- but I haven't practiced that much.

Apr 17, 2021 After watching a YouTube video by a company that sells aluminum brazing flux and rods, I tried some powdered brazing flux with these rods to see if the flux helped. Massive improvement. The flux turned to liquid when the aluminum was hot enough, and when the brazing rod melted on the joint, the flux pulled it into the joint with capillary action.

Melting extrusions , sheet, cans, etc. will produce porous castings. I also recall that there is a problem with properly filling sharp corners or small features due to high surface tension.

The melting point of these brazing rods is so high that it causes problems. Give it just a tiny bit more heat and the aluminum will either crust-over or melt. This brazing is also capable of wetting the oxide layer, giving a false impression that it worked. For best results: - Use a rotating wire brush to polish the aluminum.

Not all Aluminium Brazing Rods are made the same as I thought. I bought cheap ones off Ebay and they just didn't work. Blew holes in the alloy etc due to excessive heat as they wouldn't melt at correct temp. Ultra Bond cost a little more but worked perfectly. First time every time. Definately worked as advertised.
